Skills For Learning and Development

PK-5 Skills for Learning Group Counseling

The elementary years are the ideal time to nurture social-emotional competence and develop foundational learning skills.

This is why Kathy developed a short-term group counseling program for students in grades PK-5.

I use the Second Step® curriculum for group counseling, which offers an evidence-based approach to developing healthy emotions and behaviors.

The cumulative lessons are created to help students thrive in the following areas:

Emotion Management

Skills for Learning

Empathy

Problem Solving-How to Make the Right Decisions

PLEASE NOTE!  I vet each section before teaching a lesson.

I am very transparent and happy to share or discuss any details of a lesson with the parent ahead of time.

Lessons are cumulative.  Each week, I review the last and introduce a new lesson that builds on skills for learning.  For younger kids, I often use puppets and sing-along videos which is a lot of fun.

For older kids, I combine age-appropriate lessons with real-life situations, and fun activities.  The kids have fun, make friends, and learn essential skills at the same time.

Each week, parents receive a "Home Link Handout" lesson that describes what their child is learning and explains the importance of the lesson. It also offers Questions to Ask Their Children and A Home Lesson to encourage students to practice their learning skills during the week.

Signing Up Your Child

Meetings are held in person only.

Schedule coming soon and location TBA

A minimum of 5 students is required for each session.

There is a maximum of 10 students per group.

Groups are divided by grade levels because the lessons are specifically designed to be age-appropriate.  I do not mix younger students with the older group, and vice versa.

Group sessions are cumulative and in chronological order.

It is best, but not mandatory, to start your child at session #1 within the appropriate age group.

Each group session is one hour and lasts between 5 and 7 weeks.

Individual classes within a session are not available.

Sign-ups with full payment are required at least 72 hours before the first session meeting.

Add-ins are welcome based on availability.

Should there be fewer than 5 enrolled students in your selected group session, you will be notified 48 hours before the meeting begins, and a full refund will be issued.

Should you know a child who would benefit from these sessions, please have the parent sign up in advance to join us.  Please kindly do not bring a friend or guest to the session without enrollment.

Cancellations/Refunds:

Purchases are non-refundable, but I will be happy to provide a credit to your account.

There is no refund or credit for missed meetings.

If you need to cancel, you may earn credit for the total amount of the paid session towards a future session.  Credits are good for one year.

Cancellation requests must be made by 12:00 p.m. 48 hours before the start of your paid session to receive credit for a future session date.  Cancellations made after the specified date and time will result in a forfeiture of a credit towards a future session.

If you need to cancel,  please call or text 760-586-1376.

I will most often meet outside.

Should there be bad weather, I will do my best to relocate.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and flexibility.
